About

The Neon Lit Reading Series began in 2009 and is run by the MFA and PhD students of UNLV’s Creative Writing Program. Each reading features writing and performances by current UNLV students and alumni. We have no rules around here, which is why each reading is different from the last. The writers at UNLV are creating pieces across all genres, and we encourage them to perform them as they please every month.

UNLV’s acclaimed Creative Writing MFA & PhD students read their work every 4th Friday at The Writer’s Block bookstore and in vibrant downtown Las Vegas. Past readings have also taken place at the Neon Museum and the Velveteen Rabbit. Join us for fresh poetry, non-fiction, fiction, food, drinks, and special guests.

Neon Lit is dedicated to serving the greater community. Every spring we hold a fundraiser for a cause we hold dear to our hearts. In 2019, we raised money for RAICES, an organization dedicated to providing legal services for low-income immigrants. Please join us again on February 29, 2020 for our Project 150 fundraiser.

Neon Lit is made possible by overwhelming support from The Writer’s Block, the UNLV English Department, Black Mountain Institute, and the Las Vegas literary community. Thank you!
